  • Core Values Stories: From Little Things Big Things Grow

We love sharing stories with you about our coaches, staff, gymnasts and families who live and love our Core Values as much as we do!

Delta Gymnastics has certainly evolved and grown over the last 25 years.  From Little Things Big Things Grow….

National Champion: Maddy Thompson

This core value story is about a journey of Senior Gymnast and Delta Coach, Maddy Thompson. Maddy has been part of the Delta family since she was 6 (she is now 17).  For 11 years we have had the privilege of watching a spunky kid with heaps of energy, drive and coordination work her way through the levels, to become National Champion two years running & a member of the Level 10 Australian Team in 2017 & 2018.

From the outside looking in & without knowing Maddy’s journey you might think she is just a talented kid who has had good luck! Well it’s true she is a talented kid, however, luck has not been on her side many times throughout her gymnastics career. Maddy made the decision to continue persevering and improving herself each day, week, month and year. No doubt there were times she wanted to throw in the towel and finish up, but she knew she hadn’t quite finished what she started so many years ago. Maddy’s determination, resilience and commitment are incredible and hopefully everyone finds inspiration in her journey and story.  Watch this space, no doubt there is still more to come!

Hall of Fame Recipient: Sophie Musgrave

Sophie grew up at Delta and our Director John recall her coming up to him as a little 4 years old saying “Hello John!”  Sophie was a multiple State Champion and represented Queensland five times throughout her gymnastics career.  She won multiple medals at National Titles and was crowned National Champion when she was in Level 9.  Sophie toured with the Australian Team to South Africa and was selected as a captain of the Queensland Team when she was in Level 10.  All this kicked off as a 4 year old Jnr Gym Kid.  We believe that the real gold medal at Delta is watching young people grow bit by bit each day into the best version of themselves.

Delta Team Leader: Hannah Pilgrim

Recently we celebrated Hannah’s last day in the gym before starting maternity leave and welcoming her new bub (little Ally) to the family.  For those of you who don’t know much about Hannah’s journey with us at Delta, it commenced many many years ago (over 15 years) when Hannah was a baby gymnast!  Hannah grew up in the gym and then became a coach after she finished training. She went on to university where she completed a Psychology Degree, before coming back to Delta full time as a Coach and now Team Leader at Delta Kedron.  Hannah has always been the type of person who is willing to work hard and be great at what she does. We feel very proud of the woman Hannah has become and know she will be an amazing Mum!

Bede Asks His Coaches About Their Dreams & Aspirations

“In 10 year’s time, my greatest coaching achievement would have been to have one of my gymnasts medal at nationals”.  Sounds like our coaches are thinking about the children they are coaching and wondering where they could be in 10 years time? Who could this gymnast become?  If they are practicing and learning listening skills now (hands on head freeze!),  this will help them listen and understand their coach on how to fix their double back somersault in the future! If they learn now to walk around the beginner floor stations and not through the middle, this gymnast could become a Senior who respects and makes way for the Preppies of 2028.  Those are pretty good aspirations as coaches. Who will your gymnasts become? What will these little things grow into?

We’re sure there are so many wonderful stories out there about how from little things, big things grow at Delta. From a toddler growing in confidence to walk the beam unassisted, to a level 10 gymnast who is retiring from the sport after starting in our movement programs when they were four or five.  We’d love to hear your stories! Keep an eye on our Facebook Page and comment with your core value stories, or email our Communications Team and let them know what to share!
